Formalities
Every new business is different. It is good to start by obtaining information on the most important steps to take when starting your own business. Join one of our free seminars for startups, for example, or read our German-language brochure, STARTHILFE, to learn about the most important topics (formalities, financing, taxes and law) involved in starting a business. We also recommend completing our questionnaire for startups. Based on your answers, we can focus on which subsidy schemes you may qualify for and where you could get further help. We will contact you as soon as possible after you complete the questionnaire.
Yes, that is fine. Starting a business alongside a full-time job can be a challenge, but it also offers many benefits. The German-language brochure Starthilfe provides more information on formalities and other matters. If you want to fully dedicate yourself to your new business and drop your full-time job on the side, call us for advice at +49 2162 81 79 115.
The Kleinunternehmerregelung is a scheme for entrepreneurs and freelancers with an annual turnover of less than €22,000. Under the scheme, you do not have to charge sales tax (VAT) on your invoices and, therefore, do not have to pay it to the German tax authority.
That is not always an easy question. You can find an overview of professions that fall under “Freiberufler” in the German-language brochure Existenzgründung und freie Berufe. If your profession is not listed, “Gewerbetreibender” is likely the appropriate option. However, the German tax authority has the final word on this. As such, it is advisable to contact the Finanzamt you fall under.
Visit https://service.wirtschaft.nrw to register your company digitally. Freelancers do not need to register here. You only need to notify the German tax authority. If you are unsure which category you fall under, you can find a lot of information in this German-language brochure.

That depends on several factors. If you want to be sure you don’t forget anything, we recommend attending our free seminar for startups, during which the most important points will be explained. We are also happy to answer short questions by phone at +49 2162 81 79 115.
Funding
The most common subsidy schemes can be found HERE. There are also several other schemes for specific target groups. Based on the completed questionnaire for startups, we can draw up a list of subsidy schemes for you. In some cases, we can also help you find financing.
The process of writing and improving a business plan is often underestimated. A good business plan takes more than a few hours of work. We recommend setting aside one to four weeks for it. Upon completion, your business plan should be checked (e.g. by us) and improved or adapted as necessary. Your bank will also assess the business plan, which takes time too. The whole process often takes at least three months before the loan is paid out.
We are happy to help. Fill in the questionnaire for startups, and we will contact you as soon as possible to discuss the next steps.
Business plan
A business plan is essential for all startups who want to apply for a loan from a bank or request a subsidy. A business plan is also useful for the startup itself, as it helps to re-examine the chosen business model, structure it and draw up a financial plan. Contact us; we are happy to help you draw up a business plan.
When applying for a loan or the startup business grant: no. If you initially only want to structure or reconsider your business concept, you can use the Business Model Canvas. Contact us; we are happy to help.
